Cookies
Browsing and buying here set no cookies — not our own, and none belonging to anyone else. The only cookies we use are the ones that keep you signed in, and only if you choose to sign in to see your orders. None of it is optional tracking, which is why you were never asked to accept anything.
What is kept on your device
One thing: your basket. When you add something, your browser writes down which product and how many. That is all it writes — no price, no name, no email address, no card details, nothing that says who you are.
It is kept in what browsers call local storage, which is not a cookie and does not behave like one: it is not attached to every request your browser makes. What does travel is the list itself — each time your basket changes, your browser sends those product codes and quantities to our server so it can price them against today’s stock. We use that list to answer and do not keep it.
Once your payment is confirmed the basket is emptied. Take the items out yourself and there is nothing left in it. Clear this site’s data in your browser and it is gone outright.
If you sign in
Signing in to see your orders is optional — you can buy without it. If you do, we set two cookies to keep you signed in:
- unboxia_cliente — proves to our server that you are signed in, so your orders page can show your orders. Lasts 30 days.
- unboxia_cliente_r — lets that sign-in be renewed without sending you a new code. It is only sent to the sign-in pages. Lasts 30 days.
Both hold a sign-in token and nothing else: no name, no history, nothing about what you looked at. Signing out deletes them. Our own staff get a third, unboxia_admin, when they sign in to run the shop; it lasts an hour and is never set for customers.
Why there is no banner
Irish law — Regulation 5(3) of S.I. No. 336 of 2011, the ePrivacy Regulations — says nothing may be stored on your device without your consent. Regulation 5(5) then makes one exception, for storage that is “strictly necessary in order to provide an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user”.
A basket that remembers what you put in it is that. The Data Protection Commission’s guidance on cookies says so directly: the first example it gives of storage that is strictly necessary is a site keeping track of the items a user places in an online shopping basket. Asking you to agree to your own basket would be theatre. The sign-in cookies rest on the same exception: they are set only when you ask to be signed in, and signing in is the service you asked for.
That law covers local storage too, not only cookies — the same guidance is clear that the rule follows what is stored on your device, whatever the technology. So we are not leaning on a technicality about the word “cookie”. We are relying on the exception, and the exception is narrow. It covers a basket. It would not cover us watching you.
No analytics, no advertising
There is no Google Analytics on this site. No Meta pixel, no advertising tags, no heatmaps, no session recording, no third-party scripts of any kind. We cannot tell you which pages you looked at or how long you stayed, because we never built anything that could.
Even the typeface comes from us. It is downloaded once when the site is built and then served from unboxian.com, so your browser never asks Google for it and Google never sees that you were here.
When you pay
Card payments happen on a page belonging to Stripe, not to us. Your card number never touches unboxian.com and we never see it. What Stripe stores on its own page, to take the payment and to stop fraud, is Stripe’s to set and Stripe’s to explain — it is outside this site and outside this page.
If this ever changes
It might. Knowing which products people actually look at would help us stock the right things. If we add analytics, a consent banner goes up first and this page is rewritten before either goes live — not afterwards, and not quietly. You will be asked, nothing will be ticked for you, and saying no will not cost you anything here.
What this page does not cover
The details you type at checkout are a separate matter, and they are answered in our privacy notice. Delivery, and your right to change your mind, are set out in delivery & returns.
